ABOUT ARTHUR PELULLO
Arthur R. Pelullo, a Philadelphia native, founded Banner Promotions in 1988 and has served as its President since its inception. His initial efforts included the promotion of W.B.C. and W.B.A. Heavyweight Champion, “Terrible” Tim Witherspoon and colorful Junior Welterweight contender, Tony Baltazar.
In 1988 Art and Banner initiated a boxing series at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada titled “Young Fighters on the Rise.” This series was very popular amongst fight fans with exciting fights on every card presented. From 1990-1992 Banner promoted a series of fights on Univision as well as Sports Channel USA.
In 1992, Banner initiated a boxing series in conjunction with the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The series proved a resounding success and featured World Title holders such as Bobby Czyz, Donny La Londe, Bernard Hopkins, Otis Grant, Frank Liles, and Orlin Norris, plus exciting contenders as Alex Garcia, Joe Hipp, Merqui Sosa, Hector Lopez, and 1992 Olympian Co-Captain Eric Griffin.
Art’s endeavors were rewarded by the North American Boxing Federation (N.A.B.F.) who designated Art as their Promoter of the Year for 1992-1993, 1993-1994, 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. Art has the distinction of being the youngest recipient of this distinguished award. He was in fact, doubly honored, since in the history of the NABF there had only been one prior back-to-back award winner. In addition, Art was rewarded by the United States Boxing Association (U.S.B.A.), designating him as their Promoter of the Year for 1997-1998, 1998-1999 and 2001-2002.
In 1997 Banner Promotions developed a Latino boxing tournament series Boxcino. Boxcino was conceived to showcase Latin American talent and was telecasted on ESPN, Televisa, and Telemundo. Countries represented included Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Puerto Rico, United States, and many more. From Boxcino Banner discovered four-time World Champion Acelino “Popo” Freitas and Jr. Middleweight Contender J.C. Candelo. Boxcino was an overwhelming success and an endeavor Banner will once again pursue in the near future.
